Social media accounts can’t be arbitrarily suspended: Govt

The Centre on Wednesday told the Delhi high court that a citizen’s fundamental rights must be respected. In an affidavit filed on a plea by Twitter users Megh Bulletin and Wokeflix challenging the suspension of accounts by the platform, the government said a person’s liberty and freedom of expression cannot be “waylaid or jettisoned in the slipstream of social and technological advancement”, adding that suspension of accounts must be the last resort.

Remarking that courts should take a liberal view in awarding compensation to victims who are left 100% disabled and also suffer mental disabilities after road accidents, the Supreme Court on Tuesday extended its helping hand to one such child and awarded Rs 50 lakh compensation with 7.5% interest per annum. Parl panel: Govt far from goal of doubling farmers’ income

मुंबई : ऑस्ट्रेलियाचा दिग्गज खेळाडू शेन वॉर्नला क्रिकेट जगतातील आतापर्यंतचा सर्वोत्कृष्ट लेगस्पिनर म्हटले जाते. या महान गोलंदाजाचे ४ मार्च रोजी आकस्मिक निधन झाले. यामुळे क्रिकेट विश्वातील अनेकांना धक्का बसला. वयाच्या ५२ व्या वर्षी या ऑस्ट्रेलियन गोलंदाजाचे थायलंडमध्ये हृदयविकाराच्या झटक्याने निधन झाले. वॉर्न हा क्रिकेट वर्तुळात अनेकांचा जवळचा मित्र होता. त्यालाही भरभरून प्रेम मिळाले. त्याच्या अचानक जाण्यानंतर त्याच्या चाहत्यांनी त्याला आदरांजली वाहिली आहे. वॉर्न हा मैदानावर एक अद्भुत क्रिकेटपटू तर होताच, पण मैदानाबाहेरही तो खूप मजेदार आणि दर्यादिल व्यक्ती म्हणून ओळखला जात असे. भारताचा महान फलंदाज सचिन तेंडुलकरशी त्याची मैत्रीही खूप गाजली. खेळपट्टीवर या दोघांमध्ये चुरशीची स्पर्धा असताना मैदानाबाहेर त्यांच्यात खूप चांगले संबंध होते. ऑस्ट्रेलियाच्या १९९८ च्या भारत दौऱ्यावेळी वॉर्नने मुंबईत सचिन तेंडुलकरच्या घरी भेट दिली होती. सचिनने त्याला जेवणासाठी बोलावले होते. जेवणावेळी वॉर्नला मसालेदार चिकन डिश देण्यात आली. वॉर्नला सुरुवातीला वाटलं की, तो इतका मसाला आरामात खाईल, पण तसं झालं नाही. अॅमेझॉन प्राइमच्या एका डॉक्युमेंटरीमध्ये या घटनेची आठवण वॉर्नने सांगितली आहे. “सचिन आणि माझे चांगले संबंध आहेत. आम्ही चांगले मित्र होतो आणि अजूनही आहोत. भारत विरुद्ध ऑस्ट्रेलिया यांच्यातील मालिका ही वॉर्न विरुद्ध तेंडुलकर अशी ओळखली जायची. मी सचिनच्या घरी गेलो होतो... रात्रीचे जेवण करून लगेच हॉटेलवर परत येईन असे वाटले होते.' तो पुढे म्हणाला, 'मी चिकनचा एक छोटा तुकडा खाल्ला आणि मला चक्कर आल्यासारखे वाटले. तरीही मी तो तुकडा चघळत राहिलो. सचिन आणि त्याच्या कुटुंबाबद्दल माझ्या मनात खूप आदर आहे.' या पुढची गोष्ट सांगताना सचिन म्हणाला की, 'माझ्या लक्षात आले आहे की, वॉर्न माझ्या मॅनेजरशी सतत बोलत होता. माझ्या मॅनेजरने सांगितले की, वॉर्नने काहीही खाल्ले नाही. मी इतर पाहुण्यांमध्ये व्यस्त होतो, त्यामुळे ते पाहू शकलो नाही. तेव्हा मला कळले की, वॉर्न मसालेदार पदार्थ खाऊ शकत नाही. त्याला मला दु:खी करायचे नव्हते, पण त्याने माझ्या मॅनेजरकडे मला मदत करा, अशी विनंती केली. संध्याकाळी तो आमच्या स्वयंपाकघरात गेला आणि काही सॉसेज, बीन्स आणि उकडलेल्या बटाट्यांपासून काहीतरी बनवले. त्यानंतर तो माझ्या ताटातही जेवला. शेन वॉर्न असाच होता.'

नवी दिल्ली : शेन वॉर्न हा फिरकीचा जादुगार होता. त्याच्या नावावर बरेच विक्रमही आहेत. पण ऑस्ट्रेलियाकडून खेळताना त्याने पहिली विकेट कोणाची मिळवली होती, हे विचारल्यावर तुम्हाला त्याचे उत्तर येणार नाही. वॉर्नने पहिलीच विकेट एका भारताच्या दिग्गज खेळाडूचीच घेतली होती. शेन वॉर्नचा पहिला बळी कोण ठरला होता, पाहा...शेन वॉर्नने १९९२ साली सिडनीच्या मैदानात भारताविरुद्ध खेळताना कसोटी क्रिकेटमध्ये पदार्पण केले होते. वॉर्नचा हा पहिलाच आंतरराष्ट्रीय सामना होता. हा सामना अनिर्णीत राहीला असला तरी शेन वॉर्नने मिळवलेली ही पहिली विकेट अजूनपर्यंत काही जणांच्या लक्षात आहे. कारण वॉर्नने त्या सामन्यात भारताकडून द्विशतक झळकावणाऱ्या खेळाडूला बाद करत ऑस्ट्रेलियाला मोठे यश मिळवून दिले होते. या सामन्यात ऑस्ट्रेलियाच संघ प्रथम फलंदाजी करण्यासाठी मैदानात उतरला होता. ऑस्ट्रेलियाला प्रथम फलंदाजी करताना ३१३ धावा करता आल्या होत्या, यामध्ये वॉर्नचे २० धावांचे योगदान होते आणि त्याला कपिल देव यांनी चंद्रकांत पंडित यांच्याकरवी झेलबाद केले होते. त्यानंतर भारताची फलंदाजी सुरु झाली. यावेळी रवी शास्त्री यांनी सलामीला येत ऑस्ट्रेलियाच्या गोलंदाजांचा चांगलाच समाचार घेतला होता. शास्त्री आणि सचिन तेंडुलकर यांच्यामध्ये यावेळी चौथ्या विकेटसाठी १९६ धावांची भागीदारी झाली होती. ज्यामध्ये सचिनचा वाटा नाबाद १४८ धावांचा होता. या सामन्यात सर्वाधिक २०६ धावा शास्त्री यांनी केला होता. शास्त्री आणि सचिन यांची जोडी चांगलीच जमलेली होती. ही जोडी आता ऑस्ट्रेलियाचा पराभवाच्या दरीत ढकलणार, असे वाटत होते. पण त्यावेळी वॉर्न ऑस्ट्रेलियाच्या मदतीला धावून आला होता. कारण वॉर्नने यावेळी शास्त्री यांना डीन जोन्स यांच्याकरवी झेल बाद करत ऑस्ट्रेलियाला मोठे यश मिळवून दिले होते. त्यानंतर भारताला दुसऱ्या डावात फलंदाजी करण्याची वेळ आली नाही आणि त्यामुळेच वॉर्नला गोलंदाजी करण्याची संधी मिळाली नाही. पण अनेक विक्रम रचणाऱ्या वॉर्नने आपला पहिला बळी हा रवी शास्त्री यांच्या रुपात मिळवला होता.

मुंबई : महान फिरकीपटू शेन वॉर्नचे थायलंडमध्ये निधन झाले आणि क्रिकेट जगताने हळहळ व्यक्त केली. पण भारताचे माजी कर्णधार आणि समालोचक सुनील गावस्कर यांनी वॉर्नबाबत जी भविष्यवाणी सांगितली होती, तीदेखील खरी ठरली. सुनील गावस्कर यांनी शेन वॉर्नबाबत नेमकी कोणती भविष्यवाणी केली होती, पाहा...गावस्कर यांनी वॉर्नबाबत एक भविष्यवाणी वर्तवली होती. जेव्हा गावस्कर यांनी ही गोष्ट सांगितली होती, तेव्हा त्यावर कोणाचाही विश्वास बसत नव्हता. पण अखेर ही भविष्यवाणी खरी ठरल्याचे त्यानंतर पाहायला मिळाले. ही गोष्ट आहे १९९९ सालची. त्यावेळी इंग्लंमध्ये क्रिकेट विश्वचषक सुरु होता आणि ऑस्ट्रेलिया व पाकिस्तान यांच्यामध्ये अंतिम सामना सुरु होणार होता. त्यावेळी गावस्कर यांनी वॉर्नबाबत भविष्यवाणी वर्तवली होती आणि ती तंतोतत खरी ठरल्याचे पाहायला मिळाले होते. गावस्कर यांना अंतिम सामन्यापूर्वी समालोचन करत असताना काही प्रश्न विचारण्यात आले होते. त्यावेळी या अंतिम फेरीत सामनावीर कोण ठरेल? असा प्रश्न गावस्कर यांना विचारला होता. त्यावेळी गावस्कर यांनी क्षणाचाही विलंब न लावता, ' या सामन्यात शेन वॉर्न सामनावीर ठरू शकतो' अशी भविष्यवाणी केली होती. त्यावेळी बऱ्याच जणांना या गोष्टीवर विश्वास बसला नव्हता. कारण पहिली गोष्ट म्हणजे हा सामना क्रिकेटच्या पंढरीत म्हणजेच लॉर्ड्सच्या मैदानात होणार होता. इंग्लंडमध्ये वेगवान गोलंदाजांना नेहमीच मदत मिळते, पण फिरकी गोलंदाजांसाठी पोषक वातावरण नसते. त्यामुळे शेन वॉर्न कसा काय सामनावीर ठरू शकतो, हा पश्न सर्वांना पडला होता. दुसरी गोष्ट म्हणजे पाकिस्तानचा संघ हा फिरकी गोलंदाजीला समर्थपणे सामना करण्यात तरबेज होता. त्यामुळे ते शेन वॉर्नच्या गोलंदाजीवर चांगल्या धावा वसूल करतील, असे काही जणांना वाटत होते. पण या सामन्यात घडले मात्र वेगळेच. अंतिम सामन्यात पाकिस्तानने नाणेफेक जिंकत प्रथम फलंदाजी करण्याचा निर्णय घेतला होता. या सामन्या शेन वॉर्नने ९ षटकांमध्ये फक्त ३३ धावा देत पाकिस्तानच्या चार फलंदाजांना बाद करत त्यांचे कंबरडे मोडले होते. त्यामुळे पाकिस्तानचा संघ अंतिम फेरीत फक्त १३२ धावाच करू शकला होता. हा सामना ऑस्ट्रेलियाने आठ विकेट्स राखत जिंकला आणि विश्वचषकाला गवसणी घातली होती. वॉर्नने या सामन्यात सर्वाधिक चार विकेट्स मिळवल्या आणि त्यामुळेच त्याला सामनावीराचा पुरस्कार देऊन सन्मानित करण्यात आले. त्यामुळे गावस्कर यांनी वॉर्नबद्दल केलेली भविष्यवाणी खरी ठरली होती.
