: नवी दिल्ली : आपण बर्‍याच लोकांना असे बोलताना पाहिले आहे की, माझ्याकडे पैसे असते, तर मी हे करू शकलो असतो, मी गरीब नसतो तर ते केलं असतं, पण गरिबी माझ्या स्वप्नांच्या आड येत आहे. पण काही लोक असे आहेत की, त्यांनी आपल्या परिश्रम आणि दृढनिश्चयाच्या बळावर अशा अनेक अडचणींवर मात केली आणि त्यांची स्वप्ने पूर्ण केली आणि देशाचं नावही उज्ज्वल केलं. अशीच काहीशी गोष्ट आहे मणिपूरच्या मीराबाई चानूची. एका छोट्या गावातून आलेल्या या खेळाडूने टोकियो ऑलिम्पिकमध्ये पदक पटकावत देशाचं नाव सातासमुद्रापार झळकावलं. मणिपूरच्या मुख्यमंत्र्यांचे सल्लागार रजत सेठी यांनी मीराबाई चानूचे एक चित्र आपल्या ट्विटर अकाउंटवरून पोस्ट केले आहे. हा फोटो पोस्ट करताना त्यांनी लिहलं आहे की, ''गरिबी ही एखाद्याच्या स्वप्नांच्या प्राप्तीसाठी कधीच निमित्त ठरत नसते. टोकियो ऑलिम्पिकमध्ये रौप्यपदक जिंकल्यानंतर मणिपूर येथे तिच्या घरी आलेली भारताची सर्वात आवडती सैखोम मीराबाई चानू.'' टोकियो ऑलिम्पिकमध्ये देशासाठी पहिलं पदक पटकावत मीराबाईने इतिहास घडवला. वेटलिफ्टिंगमध्ये 49 किलो वजनी गटात रौप्यपदक जिंकणारी ती पहिली महिला खेळाडू ठरली आहे. या विजयामुळे मीराबाईचं आयुष्य पूर्णपणे बदलून गेलं आहे. मणिपूर सरकारने मीराबाईला एक कोटी रुपयांचं रोख बक्षीस दिलं. तर डोमिनोजसारख्या अनेक कंपन्यांनी तिला आयुष्यभर मोफत सेवा देण्याची घोषणा केली आहे. मीराबाईचे पाय जमिनीवर एका यशामुळं काही तासात आपल्या परिस्थितीचा कायापालट झाल्याचं मीराबाईनं पाहिलं आपणही त्याचे साक्षीदार आहोत. पण हे सगळं झाल्यानंतरही मीराबाईच्या डोक्यात यशाची हवा गेलेली नाही. मीराबाईचा एक फोटो सध्या सोशल मीडियात चर्चेचा विषय ठरत आहे. ज्यात दोन गोष्टी स्पष्टपणे दिसून येतात. पहिली म्हणजे एवढं सगळं घडल्यानंतरही मीराबाईचे पाय जमिनीवर आहेत. आणि दुसरे म्हणजे गरिबी कधीही तुमच्या स्वप्नांच्या आड येत नाही. 26 वर्षीय मीराबाई चानूने एकूण 202 किलो वजन उचलत वेटलिफ्टिंगमध्ये रौप्यपदक जिंकलं. 2000च्या सिडनी ऑलिम्पिकमध्ये कांस्यपदक जिंकणाऱ्या कर्णम मल्लेश्वरीनंतरची ती दुसरी आणि रौप्यपदक जिंकणारी पहिली वेटलिफ्टर ठरली. 2016च्या रिओ ऑलिम्पिकमधील सर्व अपयश तिने एका यशाने धुऊन टाकले.

UP: Gang involved in kidnapping, selling infants busted in UP

Since December last year, at least six unsuspecting couples in UP towns suddenly found their newborns had gone missing. There was never any ransom demand — the children simply disappeared. Seven months on, police found the gang behind it had allegedly worked out an elaborate plan — identify childless couples, promise them a baby, kidnap a newborn and then sell the infant for anywhere between Rs 45,000 and Rs 5 lakh. Sixteen people, including eight members of the gang and eight others — among them mediators and people who bought the kids — have been arrested and sent to jail.

The government on Monday told Parliament that the income tax department has filed over 10,000 cases with 107 related to black money stashed overseas. कोलंबो : पहिलाच ट्वेन्टी-२० सामना जिंकत भारतीय संघाने विजयी सलामी दिली आहे. भारताने प्रथम फलंदाजी करताना श्रीलंकेपुढे १६५ धावांचे आव्हान ठेवले होते. श्रीलंकेचा संघ यावेळी या आव्हानाचा पाठलाग करण्यासाठी मैदानात उतरला खरा, पण भारताच्या गोलंदाजांने यावेळी श्रीलंकेच्या गोलंदाजांवर चांगला अंकुश ठेवला. त्यामुळेच भारतीय संघाला पहिल्याच सामन्यात ३८ धावांनी विजय साकारता आला. पहिल्याच चेंडूवर भारताचा सलामीवीर पृथ्वी शॉ मोठा फटका मारण्यासाठी गेला आणि शून्यावर बाद झाला. भारताचे खाते उघडण्यापूर्वीच त्यांना पहिला धक्का बसला होता. पण त्यानंतर संजू सॅमसन आणि कर्णधार शिखर धवन यांनी दमदार फलंदाजी केली. या दोघांनी श्रीलंकेच्या गोलंदाजीवर जोरदार प्रहार करत संघाला अर्धशतक पूर्ण करून दिले. पण यावेळी मोठा फटका मारण्याच्या नादात संजू बाद झाला. संजूने यावेळी २७ धावांची खेळी साकारली. संजू बाद झाल्यावर शिखर धवन आणि सूर्यकुमार यादव यांनी चौथ्या विकेटसाठी ७२ धावांची दमदार धावसंख्या रचली. पण यावेळी मोठा फटका मारताना धवन आपली विकेट गमावून बसला. धवनने यावेळी ३६ चेंडूंत चार चौकार आणि एका षटकाराच्या जोरावर ४६ धावांची खेळी साकारली. धवन बाद झाल्यावर सूर्यकुमारने संघाची जबाबदारी आपल्या खांद्यावर घेतली आणि जोरदार फटकेबाजी करायला सुरुवात केली. सूर्याने यावेळी षटकारासह आपले अर्धशतक साकार केले. अर्धशतकानंतर सूर्यकुमार आता मोठी धावसंख्या उभारेल, असे वाटत होते. पण अर्धशतकानंतर लगेचच सूर्यकुमार बाद झाला आणि भारताला मोठा धक्का बसला. पण त्यानंतरही भारताला १६४ धावा करता आल्या. श्रीलंकेच्या संघाने यावेळी भारतीय संघाचा चांगलाच पाठलाग करण्याचा प्रयत्न केला. पण ठराविक फरकाने त्यांचे फलंदाज बाद होत गेले आणि त्यांना पराभवाचा सामना करावा लागला. भारताकडून भुवनेश्वर कुमार आणि दीपक चहर अचूक आणि भेदक मारा करत श्रीलंकेचा अर्धा संघ गारद केला. भारताच्या अन्य गोलंदाजांनीही त्यांना चांगील साथ दिली, त्यामुळेच भारताला यावेळी विजय साकारता आला.

Live: Landslides, floods kill at least 5 in Maha's Raigad

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted 'heavy to very heavy rains' at a few places in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar on Friday. Earlier on Thursday, rains lashed many parts of the state leaving people stranded. Heavy rainfall also led to massive waterlogging, disruption of local train services and vehicular traffic across several locations in the city and its suburbs.Meanwhile, the MSRTC came to the rescue of stranded people. It arranged for buses with the help of the Central Railway Mumbai division for passengers who were stranded in trains in far-flung suburbs -- from Umbermali/Kasara to Kalyan. It operated 133 buses between Igatpuri and Kasara/Kalyan and ferried 5,800 passengers, said transport minister Anil Parab.
